Search engine safety, can a family search the Internet safely?

From the Desk of Steve Ensley
Dear Friends and Subscribers,

I often receive emails and calls from concerned parents/spouses regarding search engines. Anyone who has used the Internet knows that some very vulgar listings can be the results even in an innocent search. Also, it can be argued that Google search is the worst for inappropriate search results, just for the reason that they have the largest search database. Google certainly is bad, but so are the other search engines including yahoo and bing.

So I am often asked if there are any alternatives that give great search results, but not all the vulgarity. First let me add (because I know many of you are thinking it) that most search engines have a safe mode switch that allows the parent to put the search engine into a mode with more child friendly results. However in most cases these safe search modes can be disabled by a five year old. So they really are not a safety control. They are more like a placebo. They might look good and sound good but in reality they are not effective when they are needed the most.

The good news is that if you use our PC or MAC filters we can force the google search engine into safe mode when you search and also the results in a youtube search. This alone is a good reason for folks to purchase our PC filters. In addition, we often recommend the use of the GoodSearch search engine. It can be found on our member site at http://myafo.net and it provides an extra level of safe searching to the family. In addition GoodSearch offers a lot of rebates and coupons for shopping which can help a family save substantial money on normal everyday purchases. I use it myself and have not been disappointed with the results. Did I mention it is free!

That is the beauty of the Internet, there is always a better option and for those of us who care about our values and the innocence of our children, AFO filters and GoodSearch are a great alternative for safer searching.
